MULTI-PUPPY GROUP WINNING CKC GCH

Dakoozi's

ACE IN THE HOLE

"Ace"

Ace was a favourite from the moment he was born. Something just told me that he was going to be an incredibly special dog. We adore everything about him, but his big, squishy marshmallow of a personality is his most defining trait!

You're my Ace, winning hand ...

... lucky star like Wonderland. Shining bright. Diamonds, baby.

The moment he was born, as I held him in my hands to clean him up, I knew there was something incredibly special about Ace. It was like an instant gut feeling that this boy would go places and do wonderful things. I wasn't looking to hold back a boy, but I felt immediately bonded to him, and it was hard to wrap my head around letting him go. As he grew, it became apparent that he was going to be stunning. His structure and temperament were exactly what I was hoping to get out of this breeding, but there was still the small problem of him being a boy.

A window of opportunity opened when a fellow exhibitor (in another breed) expressed interest in a show prospect, as she was looking to get into bassets. She had stipulated that it had to be a boy, and she was not looking to breed. I spoke to her about the possibility of a co-ownership with Ace. His laid-back, sweet nature would fit in very nicely with her pack, and we could share his show schedule, with me taking him wherever she couldn't.

He was placed with her and for 6 months, he thrived. He made the back and forth transitions seamlessly. Always happy to see each of us and never hesitating to switch cars and head to his "other" home. His show points racked up quickly, winning multiple Puppy Hound Groups and finishing his Canadian Championship by just 7 months of age!

We were thrilled. It was more than I could have ever expected from him, and I was over the moon excited about where his show and performance career would take him.

Then, after a show when he was 8 months old, I got a call from the co-owner. She couldn't keep him anymore due to municipal bylaws where she lived. So we made the quick decision that Ace would remain with us. Given his docile personality, he had absolutely no problem co-existing with our other, more mature males. And if maturity brings any issues, we have a placement for him within our immediate family so he can stay very close.

Ace is my "Big Squish". He loves to jump up on the couch and get in your face for a great big bear hug. He is a MASSIVE boy, out-sizing all of our other hounds, and only turns 2 in January 2026! His favourite thing is to be squeezed as hard as you can. It makes him ridiculously happy. We could not have asked for a better temperament in a dog, and I truly hope that one day, he can sire a litter of pups who are just like him.

Ace is taking a break from the show ring after achieving his Canadian Grand Championship at just 20 months of age. We are going to let him take time to mature, bringing him out for only a select few shows over the next couple of years.
