You've decided the breed is right ... now what?

You've done your research - you know the breed inside and out and have checked out all the breeders you could find. You have spent countless hours making sure the breeder's principals and morals align with yours and have made your decision.

Now you find yourself here. What comes next?

First off, thank you for your interest in a Dakoozi basset hound! We are humbled you have chosen us and appreciate the opportunity to bring you the next fur member of your family.

We look for our puppies to have correct conformation, exceptional temperaments, and strong drives to excel in multiple disciplines. Our breeding hounds are trialed and titled in various sports that they thoroughly enjoy, and we hope to pass that trait to their offspring as well.

We rear puppies for 9-10 weeks in our home and we employ ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation) and ESI (Early Scent Introduction) methods. At appropriate ages, the puppies are exposed to a variety of stimuli. This includes people of multiple races, genders and ages, other dogs (aside from our family pets), various sounds, scents, activity levels, outside environments, experiences and stimulating activities. The intended result is a sound dog, able to adapt to changes and recover from stress easier and faster than the average pet. A confident dog that isn't jumpy, nervous, or afraid of new experiences. (We call them "bomb-proof")

Our puppies will come microchipped, have all age appropriate immunizations and deworming, birth and health documents, a transition care package (contains food, treats, toys, collar, leash, and other various goodies & supplies), new owner information packet and lifetime breeder support.

CKC registration documents will be mailed to new owner after puppy has gone home. Puppies will have been started on crate and potty-training while in our care.

We require all interested pet parents/families fill out an application/screening questionnaire. Being thorough with your responses will help us to provide the best match to meet your family/lifestyle/needs. BE HONEST. We are open-minded and easy to get along with, but we need to ensure each puppy is going to a home that will be best for its individual personality, energy level and drive.

After a conversation to clarify your wants/needs and address any questions, a copy of the sales contract will be sent to approved homes with an invitation to place a reservation fee of $500.00 towards the total purchase price of $2500.00 for a non-breeding, companion puppy. This fee is transferable to a future litter if the litter hasn't produced a puppy that you feel connected with.

We will assess refunds of reservation fees due to change in financial health, family/home dynamics, and emergency on a case-by-case basis.

Failure to complete the purchase of a puppy, or to communicate intentions to transfer fee to another litter by the time pups are 10 weeks old will forfeit the reservation fee.

In some litters, exceptional puppies may be reserved for the breeder to retain or place without restriction. The selection of a hold-back puppy cannot be reasonably made before 8 weeks of age. Due
to this, puppy placement/selection may not occur until very close to go-home day. Please understand that the selection of a hold-back puppy, or a puppy to be placed in a show/breeding home, is an important process. It is a building block to better our breed, and to improve the future of our breeding program.

Remaining puppies will be considered for homes that are the best match for each applicant’s needs and preferences. Evaluations for personality and character traits will be performed continuously until placement decisions are made.

We know that you are eager to know your puppy. We will share several pictures and videos of the litter on our social media pages from birth until time of pick up, and will consider the information that you've provided us to ensure the best puppy is selected for your home.

We consider each puppy produced to be part of our family, and would love to see regular updates from their new homes. We encourage Dakoozi families to follow our Facebook page and post their adventures to it from time to time. Those without social media are encouraged to email or text photos and updates.

Consideration and eligibility for approved show/breeding homes are dealt with on a case-by-case basis. If this is an avenue you wish to pursue, please indicate this on the application and we will reach out. Show home puppies are priced differently from pet/companion dogs. The details of this can be discussed at the time of application.
