On July 21st, Charlotte went into labour around 10 in the morning. It was a long day, with the first pup not arriving until 5:22pm. Once she started, though, she progressed well, and before 11pm, had given birth to 9 beautiful puppies.
These are the absolute wonderful and joyous miracles of breeding.
But any breeder will tell you that there is another, more tragic side to this job, and we experienced it on the smallest scale this past week.
At just 2 days old, one of our baby girls was failing to thrive. We took her to the vet, but despite ours and our vets' best efforts, she passed over the rainbow bridge to join her newborn half brother from Charlotte's first litter.
While we mourn the loss of our little beauty, we celebrate each day that the remaining 8 babies grow and continue to be healthy. They are a beautiful bunch, and we can't wait to see their individual personalities emerge.
Once they are just over a week old, we will introduce each of them to you. For now, we are working around the clock to ensure everyone stays on the right track.
